It was another tennis masterpiece. This Australian Open Final, although lacked the quality as seen in the always Nadal and Federer finals, but it could be said that, this too was epic entertainment.

The match lasted for more than 4 hours in the fading light, with Nadal beating Federer in a five set match 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(7-3), 3-6, 6-2. Nadal, who is the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open, has also beaten federer in grand slam finals in clay and grass last year. This was Nadal's first Australian Open win.

Rob Laver, presented the Gold cup to the winner, and it was heart wrenching when an obviously emotional Federer received the plate from his idol. He was not able to speak more than a few words in his speech when he cried "god its killing me" as he backed out from the microphone.
Although it was an epic final between two geniuses, it was also a friendly match. So, it was not surprising when the Spaniard put his arms around Federer and helped him recover.

"In the first moment you're disappointed, you're shocked, you're sad, then all of a sudden it overwhelms you," Federer finally said, referring to his loss, having just missed his first chance to equal Pete Sampras' record 14 Grand Slam singles titles.

"The problem is you can't go in the locker room and just take it easy and take a cold shower. You're stuck out there. It's the worst feeling. ... It's rough."

Here's how the game went, Nadal won the first set 7-5. Here the aggressive margin which is calculated by adding all unforced errors of the set, adding all winners and forcing errors of the set and then subtracting all unforced errors from winning shots. Nadal had +11 while Federer had +8, which clearly explains who the winner of the set was.

In the second set, Federer played his game aggressively and won the set 6-3, here the aggressive margin for Nadal was +10 while for roger Federer is +20.

In the third set, Nadal played his own style of tennis, forced Federer to move all over the court, he won the set 7-6.

The fourth set was the key which was won by Federer 6-3. In this set, Federer made 10 unforced errors, with 25 winners and parting shorts with margin of +15 as compared to 10 unforced errors, 13 Winners, and margin of +3 for Nadal.

In the final set, both players were tired, but both used different tactics, Federer started playing riskier to shorten points while Nadal played slower and safer to minimize unforced errors.
There were 43 points in final set of which Nadal won (forced with his play) only 6 from the baseline. He still won the set 6-2. This statistics shows how Federer was dropped in the final set.
The total match statistics and tennis results were:

Federer 73 UE, 118 WF, and margin: +45
Nadal 57 UE, 96 WF, margin: +39
This was an excellent game and viewers enjoyed each set with the tough play.
